Worshiping Demons Unaware
God’s peace and mercy be upon us today as we delve, with this topic, into the abyss!
This article is a continuation of the one we began last week. We were encouraged by Paul to understand that we share together a union as we partake of the body and blood of Jesus in the Lord’s Supper. We are recipients of God’s grace and forgiveness which unites us together as the people of God, the Church in this world. Paul takes us deeper today than we are generally comfortable going as he addresses the reality of evil in our world and the deceptions which are seen all around us.
Paul speaks today words which set us on edge, and which make us very uncomfortable. We have grown accustomed to placating everyone to simply get along in our society. There was a time when the Church was both loved and hated because Christians spoke the truth. If someone did not believe in Jesus as Savior, it was understood that the person was unsaved and thus going to hell. This was true of the person who had no religion as well as the person who practiced a different religion, be it Hinduism, Islam, Mormon, Jehovah Witness, etc.
There was also a time when Christians understood the Masonic Lodge was an anti-Christian organization. But over time, because the Masons & Shriners do so much good, it has become acceptable for practicing Christians to participate in this organization. What most Christians do not know is that when a Mason achieves the 32nd degree and is allowed to become a Shriner, he must swear a blood oath to Allah, the god of Islam and Muhammad his prophet. Just look at the Shriner Fez (hat). It celebrates the annihilation of Christians, and it bears the Islamic symbol of the sword and crescent front and center.
What is the power behind the false religions of the world? Paul tells us plainly in our text today!
Look at the people of Israel; are those who eat the sacrifices not partners in the altar? What do I mean then? That food sacrificed to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything? No, but I say that things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons and not to God; and I do not want you to become partners with demons. You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons. Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? We are not stronger than He, are we? 1 Corinthians 10:18-22
In 1 Corinthians 8 Paul has already addressed idol worship when he said, “Therefore, concerning the eating of food sacrificed to idols, we know that an idol is nothing at all in the world, and that there is no God but one.” (1 Corinthians 8:4). An idol made of wood, metal, or stone is nothing. But that does not mean it is powerless because while the idol is a lie, the power behind the lie is very real. Paul says every idol and every false religion has the power of hell behind it. Every belief system in this world other than Christianity, is of the devil and has the power of the demons working in and through the people who believe and profess the lie.
Understand, the devil and the demons are at the root of every false religion, and they are working to spread these false religions throughout the world, while at the same time using them to attack and destroy those who believe in Jesus Christ as Savior.
The Muslims worship demons and serve them in all they do. The Hindus worship demons and serve them in all they do. The Mormons worship demons and serve them in all they do. Same with the JW’s, the Scientologists, the Unitarians, and every other religion in this world.
The only exception, the only people who do not serve Lucifer with their lives and serve the purpose of demons, is the Christian. Remember, this world is Satan’s dominion. He is the god of this world. He is the prince of the powers of the air, and he is at work in the sons of disobedience. Satan does not care what you believe or if you believe nothing, just so long as you do not believe in Jesus. Satan does not even seek people to worship him. He would rather work as the puppet master behind the scenes. Just so long as you do not believe in Jesus, he has you!
We have come to the point of believing demons and their influence and possession of individuals is all Hollywood stuff! That is just what the devil desires. Don’t take him seriously. Picture him in a red jumpsuit with a pointy tail and horns. Make fun of him and pretend he is irrelevant! That is just what he wants. Then, when you least expect it, he will blindside you and work to destroy your faith in Christ.
Demons are real and Satan is at work in this world. The only threat he faces is from Christians who lift up the name of Jesus, stand firmly on God’s Word, and who proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins. Sadly, there aren’t many of us left anymore. As the years pass our numbers are growing smaller. In today’s world only 50% of so called Christians believe in the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. Satan is the master deceiver, and he is working to convince people that they can believe in anything they want, and it will get them to some type of eternal life. The truth is they will not have eternal life but rather eternal death in the torments of an eternal hell.
The only thing standing in the way of all Satan and his minions of demons’ desire to do is YOU! You, me, and every other true believer in this world are the only chance the people of this world have to ever reach the gates of pearl and the streets of gold. It is only when we have the courage to speak the truth, the very unpopular truth, that every religion is a false religion that we can be used by God to save the lost. This is why we are the Church! This is why we are Spirit and Truth! This is why we are the people of God who proclaim the crucified and resurrected Jesus. We do this for the salvation of the world, even the world which hates to hear it.
It is time for we who are true Christians and who believe in the grace and mercy of our God who desires all to be saved and come to the knowledge of the Truth to rise up! We must stop cowering to public opinion and living in fear of hurting someone’s feelings. When a person’s eternal welfare is at stake, offend them! The Gospel is always offensive to those who are perishing until they come to know it is true, by the working of the Spirit.
May God use us to speak the truth boldly and through us may He rescue those who are trapped in the deception of demons and shine the light of truth into their hearts.
